The Institute of Engineers Tanzania (IET) organised a one day meeting on Saturday 30th, 2011 at Karimjee Hall in Dar es Salaam to deliberate, among things, the power loading being experienced in the country, some time now.
After a heated debate, participants, mostly engineers, adopted a resolution calling for the government to do something urgently that will ensure the power crisis is eliminated once and for all.
Talking to journalists at the end of the meeting, Engineer Dr. Malima Bundara, the IET president who also chaired the proceedings; announced that they have formed a six men committee, comprising of three engineers from the institution and three officials from the government side headed by the office of the prime minister, the ministry of energy and minerals and Tanzania National Electricity Supply Company TANESCO) itself.
"The COMMITTEE shall be mandated to look into short, medium and long term solutions to the existing problem," engineer Bundara said.
He said the meeting was initiated taking into considerations, the impact of load shedding to the economy of the country and how it has tarnished the image of the CCM government headed by president Jakaya Kikwete and how engineers could do to solve the problem.
He urged the government not to ignore engineers from the private institutions like IET.
"THEY KNOW THE PROBLEM AND THEY WANT TO ASSIST THE GOVERNMENT IN ALLEVIATING THE PROBLEM."
